My advice would be next time stay in Zihuatanejo on La Ropa or in Ixtapa. You will probably be much happier.

On the Tronco Bay Inn:
I ate breakfast there one morning and thought it was great. The woman chef whipped up the ranchero sauce and salsa fresh right after we ordered.I was allowed to peek into one of the rooms and it was emaculate and spacious. They were polite and accomodating.
I think the dirt road along the ocean front in Troncones has been mentioned by more than one travel report. Frankly, Im surprised you haven't heard about it. But bottom line, it is dusty and has it's share of topes but is far from back breaking.
It is hit and miss because of the hills. Staying at the IAMB we could get a signal out by the beach sometimes and other times not.. I dont think it is fair to blame or imply Tronco Bay Inn is unusual in this respect.
