First of all I wanted to thank everyone that has posted all this great info about Zihuatanejo on this board it has helped us a lot for planing our first trip to the area.
We where there from April 2 to 6 and had a fantastic time. We started out with 1 night at La Quinta Troppo which we just loved. We where picked up from the airport and arrived 15 minutes later at Troppo. Check in was fast, very friendly and welcoming. Erika took us to our room and shortly after we had 2 very tasty Margaritas in our wonderful Las Gatas Suite and Guacamole with Chips. What a welcome! The Suite was just great with Palapa Roof and Mosquito Net covered King Bed overlooking Playa La Ropa. There was also a nice seating area. You could see right away Troppo was built by the same architect as Casa Que Canta. We went for a refreshing swim in the pool and we got back to the room to find that we had received a nice turn down service for the evening with little white slippers and cotton robes. The maid had created a beautiful design out of flower pedalls on our bed. Nice!!! We had dinner at Troppo that night since the menu looked good and turns out also tasted great. We made friends with fellow Troppo guests and everyone was very happy with their hotel choice. A perfect first day on Vacation. The next day we enjoyed a good Breakfast on Troppo's ocean view Terrace and after a day at Playa Las Gatas the owner of Villa Zanzibar picked us up for our 3 night Villa rental stay. Villa Zanzibar is on the far South end of Playa Ropa up on the hill above Las Gaviotas Restaurant and close to the new Don Francisco Hotel (looks very nice as well) This was our 15 year anniversary and we wanted maximun privacy this is why we decided on renting a Villa. Villa Zanzibar was everything and more we hoped for! The pictures on their website looked great but in real it is even better. Lois the nice Owner gave us a tour of the Villa and the Fridge was already stocked with Salsa, Guacamole, Beer, Mineral Water and Lemonde. There was Tequila and Rum available and Lois had beautiful fresh flowers waiting on our dinner table. The requested hammocks where hanging in the perfect locat1on! Thank you Lois! We spent lots of time swinging and taking in the view. It is hard to describe Zanzibar. It is built with open Air lofty Palapa Roof, tile floors with rock designs in laid. Curved Walls and earthy colors. Great interior design touches. Lots of style and nice art all around. We had 2 air conditioned bedrooms and a bathroom downstairs with full kitchen and living room. And we had a cozy loft with Mosquito Net draped Bed and Bathroom and sitting area upstairs. We had fun sleeping in the AC Bedroom some nights and in the romantic loft another. The best part of Zanzibar is the view. Since you are high up on a hill the view is amazing!!! We could see La Ropa as well as all the way to Fisherman's Walk and Puerto Mio. The Villa is up in the Canopy of the trees and you feel like you are in a luxury tree house with lots of nature around and Birds chirping. I could go on and on about Zanzibar and everything the owners provide to their guests. The Kitchen was very well equiped. There was TV, VCR and Videos in the Bedroom (with that view we did not need to watch TV) and there was a very good stereo system (and some great CD's). There are large Beach Towels, Boggie Boards, Beach Bags, a straw hat and lots of candles. The Villa is super clean and Natie the cute Maid comes daily except Sundays to keep things in perfect condition. There is also a Gardner tending to the grounds. The walk to the beach is not far or to hard (Unless you have leg problems) It is just several steep stairs down the Hill and you are on the most southern end of Playa La Ropa and you can always find a taxi there to go into town for dinner. David took us to the airport when we had to leave which was very nice of him. We had a fantastic Vacation on both ends of Playa La Ropa and know that we will return. I could have stayed in that Villa for 6 month. We highly recommend La Quinta Troppo and Villa Zanzibar!!!!!! The only negative was that it was peak Mexico vacation time and the beaches where more crowded than we would have liked but it was not that bad either. Just so you know where we come from when judging accomondation. We are in our late 30's (Native Californian and German)live in Southern California and travel frequently all over the world, have been many times in other parts of Mexico and are picky when it comes to accomondations. We don't have to stay in 5 star luxury hotels to be pleased but the place must have charm and certain touches. Interior design is one of our hobbies and Dean's father is an Architect. Therefore we enjoy to stay in places that are built and designed well. This is why we liked both places so much. We also enjoyed the local flavor and quaintness Zihua town had to offer. If you are looking for a nice, romantic place to stay take a look at Villa Zanzibar and La Quinta Troppo!
