Hi Sylvia,

Here's the scoop according to my source (Noyo)... The old Oliviero was one of the original inhabitants of La Gatas Beach and a famed diver in the beginnings of diving itself. He wore a long beard white in the later years. He was almost Neptuno, may he rest in peace.

One day in the early 70's, diving, Oliverio found the anchor in an area in front of La Ropa Beach. He got it up and for about 15 years had it in front of his restaurant on Las Gatas Beach. Then, noticing that it was beginning to rust, he decided to return it to the sea. Thus you are able to enjoy seeing it under water in fron of Las Gatas.

The anchor is believed to be from a Spanish Galeon dating to the early 1700's that sunk in front of La Ropa beach. Zihuatanejo bay in those days was a welcome haven for ships on their long journey from Spain to the Philipines and back. Enjoy!

Hasta pronto,
