CASA BAHIA RESTAURANT REVIEW:

I visited Zihuatanejo last week and had dinner at the newly-rebuilt CASA BAHIA RESTAURANT three times. Why eat so many times at the same place? Well, we were there for two weeks and had tried all the top restaurants, like El Mare, El Mediteraneo, Coco's, Capricio's, and even Kal Kan, which is touted as "probably the best food in Zihuatanejo". But, I think that Casa Bahia should be the restaurant with the title "BEST IN ZIHUATANEJO."
The food there has to be the best, with delicious steaks, tuna steaks chicken and pasta, shrimps and lobster in large portions, served by handsome, young waiters. My husband and I chose a table on the new upper deck, and the panaramic view of the bay was enchanting, with bobbing yachts in the moolight below us. I have forgotten what my husband ordered, but what I had was memorable, their famous grilled tuna steak wrapped in bacon with steamed vegetables delicately buttered with pilaf-like rice. I was first served a salad of ripe tomato slices with a balsamic vinegar and olive oil dressing, topped with manchego (?) cheese. Delicious. Oh, my husband had their "blackened tuna sashimi" a slab of tuna grilled quickly to blacken the exteriour, but left sashimi-raw in the center, served with soy sauce and japanese horseradish. He was impressed. Although we were eating fish, it was so savory, we decided to try a couple bottles of Merlot from Chile, which was very drinkable and went perfectly with the fish, and also made us a little tipsy and romantic in the moonlight overlooking the sea. The price for our meal was less than 600 pesos, so we felt it a bargain, and that was the reason we went back two more times just before we flew back to Vancouver. We were very surprised at the high quality of the food and drinks at very reasonable prices. So, we will go there first next time we are in Zihua. Actually, we had been to Zihuatanejo several times before, but never went to Casa Bahia before because we thought it was too far up on a hillside on the opposite side of the bay from the best restaurants. But, we were delighted to "discover" the yacht-club restaurant this trip. The owner, "Will" came to our table and was very friendly. And shared with us his dream of a new project, not surprisingly a 5-star restaurant with an even better view of the bay. We ended up leaving a large tip each night, partly because we felt such top quality and delicious food was underpriced compared to the other restaurants in Zihuatanejo.

I would enjoy hearing from others who have eaten at Casa Bahia, and their views about the food and service. We understand now, that the place has a small cult following. We do think it is the best restaurant in Zihua.

Love from Vancouver,

Jennifer & Ed Jones
