First of all....thanks to Rob and all the good informative comments posted here over the years. Wife and I spent 6 wonderful nights 5/29 - 6/4 at Villa Del Sol. Had beach suite #3...very private....very elegant. The resort rivals many I've seen in other parts of the world. The service was excellent, the grounds were beautiful, all the staff were friendly, courteous, and fun to chat with. We ate a few meals there. A bit pricy but you definitely get what you pay for. Good nightly entertainment too. After the second day we got so relaxed and lazy that come meal time we never wandered more than two or three doors up or down the beach (La Perla, etc). One place just a door or two North that we really enjoyed was Restaurant Dona Prudencia. I had not heard it mentioned here before but want to make it known to future visitors. Very laid back, inexpensive, yet excelent fare and wonderfully presented. Would recommend it to anyone in the area. And Rob....you were right. The smoke could be seen in the hills but was no problem at all along the beach. Left our splash pool glass doors open every night to enjoy the cool sea breeses. Did hire a driver for a three hour tour of the area. That was informative but couldn't wait to get back to the Villa to relax and enjoy the contrasting scenery. Shopping for Mexican trinkets did not spark our interest much since we live in San Diego and see a lot of that stuff come across the boarder all the time. The towns all look pretty much the same too but we did enjoy the history lesson of the area. All in all it was the best of times. We came to relax...no cell phones....no laptops. Just eat, drink, read, love, and be pampered. And were we ever! We both used the Spa at Villa Del Sol. That was very professionally run and very relaxing too. We love the place....will definitely be back someday and certainly in the low season again when most the crowds and tourists are somewhere else!
If your not a young twenty-something living on a shoe string budget (and we were certainly there once upon a time ourselves)looking for cheap accomodations, then Villa Del Sol is "the" place to be. Helmut has created a true paradise in Zihua.
