We took a second class bus to Aca once a few years back. It was cheap but slow, stopping at all the little towns along the way. It was interesting though to get a glimpse of them. About halfway to Aca a great grumbling then loud crash from the engine brought us to a halt. Everyone piled off the bus and gathered around the driver who was examining the, very obviously, now nonfunctional engine.

Amazingly within minutes all the passengers except us had disappeared, either hitchhiking or walked off down the highway.

"No problemo", the driver assured us. "Un otra autobus venir pronto". Sure enough, within ten minutes another second class bus came along and picked us up. The trip took about four and a half hours.
We hated Acapulco. Big, dirty, crowded and noisy.
