Just a quick note to thank all who have posted on this site. It sure helped to plan our holiday as it was our first visit to Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo (January 13 - 20). We have been to Cancun, Cozmel, Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan & Puerto Vallarta but this was by far the our favorite place. We did an exchange into the Pacifica Resort so we did have lots of exercise every day as we walked up the 125 stairs to our unit. They do have ground transportation and the gondola if you need to use which is good.

Restaurants
We never had a chance to eat in Zihuatanejo as we always seemed to find good restaurants in Ixtapa.
Ixtaco Restaurant Bar - We found out that this was owned by a fellow Canadian so we went here a couple of times. We were not disappointed in either of the meals.
Mamma Norma Restaurant - Bar & Deborah - Again by a Canadian with great food.
Ristorante L Italianos & Cafe Salsa - Great Calamari & Pizza
Casa Morelos - food was OK, but not much flavor
Tulipanes - At the resort. They had good food but limited menu.

Beaches/snorling/shopping
We went to Ixtapa Island on day for snorkling and found per the message board that it was better snorkling in the morning. We saw a great number of different fish.
Also went to Las Gatas Beach. Tried to get there early also but found that the boats going across the bay don't start until 9:00am. We were on the first boat across and like Dennis & Diane we missed Arnolds (3rd from the dock) and found Otilia's & Franco instead. We did stay there for the day and had a great time. This area is good snorkling early but by 12:00 we found the water was getting fairly cloudy.
We spent a whole day wandering the streets of Zihuatanejo which we loved. We found out of the way places, the local market, artisians market, tourist market (by far the best prices in all the places that we have visited in Mexico) and of course the bakery (Panaderia El Buen Gusto). We wandered around in Ixtapa also and found a couple of neat places. We used the bus system and never had a problem or felt unsafe at any point of the trip.

All in all the weather was excellent, the beaches terrific, the water warm and the people very friendly. This will definitely be a place that we will visit again. Next time we will concentrate our eating in the Zihua area.

Thanks again to all who helped make this the most informative message board that I have encountered.
