We have traveled to Zihuatenejo many times with our two daughters (now 10 and 14), and find that there is no shortage of things to do. Of course, we stay on Playa la Ropa, and the swimming there is very good. Boogie boards can be rented or purchased there, although they are cheaper if purchased in the States. You can store them in the overhead luggage bin. Banana rides are fun, snorkeling is easy and accessible, (we love Playa las Gatas), a side trip to Barra de Potosi is great, with a ride on the boat along the beautiful lagoon. The bakery (El Buen Gusto) in town has things kids like. There are two good pizza restaurants right across from the bakery, and at least one will deliver to your hotel room. There is a funky, but fun, miniature golf course right around the corner from the bakery. We have eaten at all the ice cream stores in town, and the quality has been good. I think younger kids get burned out really fast on deep sea fishing, and the elements (swells, sun and wind) can be challenging. The artisan's market is great in the morning or late evening, but torture with kids during the hot part of the day. La Sirena Gorda, down by the harbor, has kid-friendly breakfasts with good pancakes and hot chocolate.

Bottom line is our kids want to spend max time on the beach, so if you can find a shady palapa with close access to good swimming and sand castle building, you'll do fine. Have fun!
