Obviously, if you stay at VDS, you don't have to pay to use the beach. But, that is one of the best things about the hotel. We chose VDS over Casa because, Casa does not have it's own private beach, since it sits up on a cliff. I would not have liked the pool as well at Casa either, but to each his own.

I did not check out the standard room at VDS, so I can't advise on that. Food at VDS was just OK, but we ate at the restaurant at Casa Que Canta, and it was outstanding!!

Both resorts are great, with 'gives and takes' for each one, with VDS having some features that Casa Que Canta can't offer, and vice versa.

If you want a private beach right on the hotel's property, go with Villa del Sol, and the room won't matter, unless you plan on spending a lot of time in it. If the room is more important than the beach, then you should probably go with Casa Que Canta.
