Hi Linda, I just read your e-mail. To fish Barra from the beach you'll need a good medium/heavy spinning rig with good quality 12-15# mono. For bait, you can use a 1 ounce bullet weight and #1 bait or si-wash hooks. I've had great luck casting a 1 ounce chrome castmaster replacing the hook with a 3/0 or 4/0 siwash hook. We just sit on the beach watching for birds. When the birds are in, so are the fish. Jacks to 25# and small sierras are common and a lot of fun. When one of the jacks hits...hold on.
