We've stayed at the Hotel Irma the last two winter trips to Zihuatanejo, and will probably be going back there this February. It's a great hotel as long as you don't mind walking up and down stairs. Seems that every direction a person goes involves at least a couple of stairs. For a few years, the hotel was "famous" for not having doors on the bathrooms. However, during our stay in March last year, doors were installed, at least on some of the rooms. The pools are just as Walt described: Great for swimming around and cooling off. The pool area is excellent for loafing around with a great view of the bay. The people on the staff at the hotel were very helpful. Guests can check out beach towels from the front desk. We would do that, then walk down to La Ropa, rent an umbrella and two chairs for the day (30 pesos), and enjoy one of the nicest beaches in Mexico. It's also a short walk down to the city center and all the great restaurants and clubs that are there. Almost next door is the Kau Kan, one of the best restaurants in town, and a few blocks toward town is La Casa Vieja (I think that's the name), another excellent restaurant. Last year, the hotel's money exchange didn't have a very good US dollar/pesos rate. We always exchanged money downtown. In summary, it's a great place.
