We have been to this hotel twice and always had a garden room. The first time we booked a tower room and were given a room with no balcony. A balcony or patio is a must for us on vacation. We were told all the other tower rooms were booked and so we took a garden room that was to the side of the resort. This was supposed to be for only one night but, we liked it so well that we didn't move the next day. On our next visit we booked a garden room and wound up in the same room we had the year before.
It is true that your view is not the ocean but, what is wrong with beautiful gardens and palm tree views when it is winter back home? There was no bad smell and it was an extremely quite room. When you sat on our patio it was completely private, no one walking by.
If you don't like your first room you can always ask to be taken to another room.
