Was in Ixtapa-Zihu January 16 thru 22. Now sitting her in Nebraska watching a blizzard outside. (No kidding). Have to tell everyone who checks this message board: Ixtapa-Zihu is a great place to go! You will not be disappointed. Had a group of 30 people and all want to go back again. That is saying alot since this group has traveled together since 1983. Many said it was the best trip ever. Stayed at the Presidente. Their pool area is about 50 ft long (no kidding) with a swim up bar, then canal areas, bridges and it all opens up to 2 more pools. Not very deep but so relaxing and a great place to hang out with a group of friends with a pina colada in hand. We enjoyed volleyball & water polo. Presidente is all inclusive but the staff served us pronto. The staff was truly the best ever. So pleasant and accommodating. Rooms are small with a need for updating but the grounds make up for it. Weather was absolutely the best ever! Went to Zihu and the people were so friendly. Enjoyed the tranquility and scenery sitting in the park with a soda near the Zihu marina. Went to Alberto's for silver plus did our share of shopping from local people. Lots of pretty pottery etc... One gal bought 6 sets! People joked with us about our lack of Spanish but you know everyone can communicate as long as their hearts show love & understanding. Learned that "Quantum Questa?" is "How Much?" in English.
The guys golfed alot and thought both courses were great. I know alot of people say we need to get out an experience the Mexican way of life, but this group includes alot of hard working homebuilders who don't play golf for months here in NE and the sun and pool and just relaxing is what they want. Although one couple hired a taxi driver for a guide for 2 days and loved it. We left wanting to go to other areas so will just have to do that next time. (As far as safety, not once did we ever feel uneasy about our surroundings.
Went to Ixtapa Island & watched this couple enjoy the biggest and they said the best Red Snapper.
At 3pm Mon. thru Sat. they feed the alligators in a secured area at the end of the motel zone. Never saw an alligator up close before so our eyes were pretty big.
One sad thing, they found a guy washed up on the beach after body surfing at our motel. He wasn't moving so they secured his back and neck and took him away on a stretcher. Never heard his well being. People need to believe those black flags mean death! There are safer places to body surf than on the beach near the motel zone.
We have been to Bermuda, Bahamas, Acupulco, Puerta Vallarta, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Florida (ugh), etc... and Ixtapa-Zihu topped them all. Talked to people who have been going back for 5 or 6 years. Now, we know why. If you are thinking about a trip --- Go to Ixtapa - Zihu!!! To all of you in Ixtapa-Zihu, you are wonderful!
