Been to Mexico all my life and looked forward to Zihua. we had a great time but forgot how hot it got at night WITHOUT a/c. We stayed at the Catalina. great views but way too hot at night and although we were in very good physical shape, the effort to go up and down the mountain/hotel property is way way beyond reason. Checked out after one night, went next door to the Villa Mexicana and what a deal. $85/night including tax and breakfast. Only 2 story, on the beach at La Ropa. The best price and all you would ever want for those that usually stay at $180/night hotels. Even better is next door to it at Villa del Sol which is super deluxe, expensive, but absolutely gorgeous property, also on beautiful La Ropa beach. Avoid Hotel Catalina because Villa Mexicana is cheaper, much nicer, much newer, has a/c, is right on the beach and has bar service right on the beach.
