I am from Alberta also.
I went to Taxco last year but not from Z, I went from Acapulco and spent the whole day there.
The town is very quaint and nice and sort of built on the hillsides.
It is billed as the Silver Capital of the World, so you will certainly see enough silver items.
I ate at a nice roof top restaurant but I do not remember the name..does not matter , there are plenty of places to eat.
The streets are very narrow and I mean very narrow...it is an experience to have the taxi driver take you around!!!. There are streets where two cars cannot pass each other.
The drive is nice and the place is nice and you see a lot of countryside on the way.
Have a nice time
