Tuna tubes are a special kind of live-bait well. They are generally tub shaped and have water circulating through them. They allow you to catch big live-baits (mackeral, bonita, skip jacks, etc.) and keep them alive for longer periods of time while you travel to the fishing grounds. These bigger live-baits are more likely to generate a big tuna or marlin.
On a boat without tuna tubes, once a large live bait is caught, it has to be rigged up immediately and trolling with it has to begin immediately. Also, you can't save any for later once the big live-baits you are currently trolling are dead.
