Our two sons (age 12 and 14) were with us. We liked patzcuaro a lot with all the old spanish colonial buildings, local villages with the specialized crafts and such. Morelia was a nutty place to drive in. As far as I can tell, the whole concept of having maps available is completely lost, so there was a lot of guessing and trying to find very small and erratic street signs. Parking in Morelia was nearly impossible but we enjoyed the old buildings and huge churches, but on the whole we are pleased that we ended up in Patzcuaro as our second base of operations to expolore the area. The challenges in renting a car free of mechanical problems was a big point of agnst and the Mexicans drive very aggressively to say the least. A good trip all in all.
