The bay is miraculously holding its own against our unfortunate incessant and increasing onslaught.

Puerto Mio's parent company, Punta del Mar, along with various allegedly "responsible authorities" (isn't that an oxymoron?) were recently slapped with a lawsuit by the legal representative of our local environmentalist network called Rogaz (Red de Organizaciones No Gobernamentales Ambientalistas de Zihuatanejo). Puerto Mio has consistently shown themselves to be antagonistic and disdainful towards our local community, our ecology and our laws by allegedly violating numerous laws, including those designed to protect the environment. They are accused of obstructing the flow of currents in the bay through the construction of their jetty (thus causing over 5 feet of sedimentation to accumulate and the stagnation of part of the bay), violating a cease and desist order by continuing construction of the jetty, altering the natural state of Playa Contramar by removing the smooth round pebbles that make up its beach and replacing them with sand, and with causing the complete disappearance of another beach, Playa Almacén.

That's a lot of damage from just ONE developer. And they've got more plans! Don't forget the cruise ship pier because they haven't!

But the bay is certainly swimmable and the water still clear and blue (though getting a bit on the cool side for my liking), if that's what you mean. ;~)
