Well.... as Rob indicated, "Tlacuache = possum" (if it was indeed a possum).
We have 'a family' of them who seem to find the peacefulness and security of our walled-compound gardens to be their preferred home. And while they are forever welcome amid our now near-menagerie grounds, I just wish that they could CONTROL THEIR APPETITE during the late summer months!!!
We have two BIG peach trees that produce an annual cornucopia of fruit, which indelibly makes its way into the kitchen for jams, ice cream, frozen ‘peaches-on-a-stick’, endless Daiquiris, and equally endless canastas to our neighbors..... BUT, keeping those ‘gorging’ tlacauaches OUT of the trees at night has become a real “trick”, especially as they are nocturnal feeders!
Yeah, if the trees are not ‘protected’, THAT family will strip the trees of fruit within a week (literally HUNDREDS of peaches!)..... as they DID that First Year.....!
