According to several news articles recently, Senador Angel Aguirre Rivero, who years ago was appointed governor to replace Rubén Figueroa after he was implicated in the massacre of Aguas Blancas, has been promoting the construction of a cruise ship pier "somewhere between Barra de Potosí and Cerro de Guamilule" with the excuse that this will "detonate tourism in the region". Since tourism has already been "detonating" quite well in the region, thank you, I can't imagine what he's talking about, unless he means to benefit his pals in the construction and tour-bus businesses, because historically cruise ship passengers simply don't spend enough money with locals to make it worthwhile to open their doors to them for business.
This is one sneaky-Pete to look out for and keep an eye on. I hope we don't have to mobilize and fight this stupid battle all over again to protect Barra de Potosí, but if that what the PRI's future candidate for the state governorship wants (unbelievably he's already campaigning for 2012) then he should be careful what he wishes for.
Oye, Angel... ¡olvídalo, güey! Ni aquí ni allí queremos ningún muelle para cruceros. Queremos proteger nuestra belleza natural ya que eso es lo que busca nuestras turistas y así nos gusta. ¡No manches, güey!
