My wife and I flew out of O'Hare Super Bowl Sunday non stop on USA 3000. Not a full flight, surprisingly. After customs, paid $25 at the taxi desk for a ride to the Bay View Grand in Ixtapa. After a little beach unwinding and a balcony sunset we went to Frank's for the game and a bite to eat. A large crowd but good service and food.

Monday. Went to the SuperMercado for provisions across the street next to Los Patios. Decent selection and prices. Very good exchange rate especially since the banks were closed for Constitution Day. Rest of the day spent relaxing under a palapa. After the sunset on the beach we walked to the cable car and went to El Faro for dinner. Great view of the bay and food and service had improved from our last visit. Live dinner music was a nice touch.

Tuesday. Momma Norma and Deborah for breakfast. Used to go to Cafe Onyx on Ixtapa Blvd, but it's closed up. Too bad, it was fun to watch the world go by over a cup of coffee. Headed to Zihua for some shopping and sightseeing.
Had a light lunch at Coconuts and then more shopping. Ended up at Playa Principal and made a donation at the Zihua SailFest booth. Sat at Daniel's for a beer and looked out at the sailboats. Our waiter told us that there are no more waves because of the "pier" that Puerto Mio built. That seems very problematic. Back to Ixtapa for dinner at Bogart's. An assault on the senses, all in a good way.

Wednesday. Played some tennis at the BVG. Court is carpeted with a thin layer of sand on top. Some strange bounces but the court never got hot. Took a beach walk to the Bay View Grand Marina. Not quite finished but appears to be very similar to where we are. On the way back stopped at the beach grill at the Krystal. Ophelia is a fantastic short order cook and the beers are cold. A sunset dinner at Villa De La Selva capped our day.

Thursday. Went across the street to the outdoor marketplace. Not as good as Zihua's but convenient. Had lunch on our balcony watching the SailFest Parade. Later in the evening we went to La Malinche in the Ixtapa Plaza. It was nice to have really good Mexican food and live musicians. Our hostess, Karina, could not have been more accommodating.

Friday. A beach day. Went to Beccofino's at the Marina in the evening. No reservations but got a prime seat right away. Dinner there is very Italian and of excellent quality.

Saturday. A total beach day, never saw the front of our place. We walked the whole bay. There is a tide pool next to the Pacifica resort that can have some interesting viewing. Amazingly, there is still open property at the other end. Dinner at La Terraza Del Mar at the Dorado Pacifico finished our beach theme for the day. No complaints. In fact, pleasantly surprised.

Sunday. Back to Chicago. Two weeks next time.
