Aaaaah, the Hotel Las Cuevas was indeed One FUN Night.... or Two, as well some of the better eats we had east of (Emilio) Cienfuegos....... before Santiago.
But, we actually fell-by the distinctly WILD Casa de Música (on the outdoor plaza above the main church) nearly every night.... LATE Night.... for some rather INcredible Afro-Cuban beat…. and dancers….. woven amid endless local rum-n-cokes and great conversation! THAT plaza, too, 'rocked' amigo.... All Night Long! Accordingly, we actually stayed in Trinidad five days at a Casa Particular of some REALLY wonderful folks, who's musician son 'introduced us around'....!
Outside of the deliriously PRISTINE Ecological Reserve at Maria La Gorda (on the faaaar southwest end of the island), we had our absolutely Best Times in Trinidad!!! Pure ‘Plantation’, man! We actually hung-out with a group of ‘Counter Revolutionary’, Very educated Cuban painters ("unlicensed" to "Legally" Paint at all!) who joined our VERY international Pandilla, showed us all around the countryside and remote area beaches, as well as provided us with FAKE Gov ID stickers to get their paintings out of the country (along with poetry books/letters!).
Yeah, Trinidad was our best ‘stop’ = Perhaps “The Real Cuba”.....
