Please don't feel bad really! It was an inevitable thing. C'est la vie y ni modo. There is no room for La Barra as the community it is in this project as it is planned both figuratively and literally. Remember the community is based on fishing. Fishing will effectively be removed by the development of the entire borders of the lagoon and the dredging of the lagoon itself to deepen it and accomodate the marina. However we have not taken a seat with los brazos cruzados either. We are working on our own alternative. Nobody here like the idea of becoming a kind of imitation or tourist performance community... kind of like what they have on display in Orlando Florida for a fee if you know what I mean. Yet there is a way to morph into an economy that is still connected to the ocean and continues that integrity and from there, interfaces with tourism in a constructive and excellent way for all involved.

Change is inevitable, as you mentioned in a previous post. This is a fact. Fast change such as this is a kind of cultural car crash. Our hope is to be part of directing that change in such a way as to minimize the negative impact on our community and add our own energy to what happens in a creative way. This isn't a new story and now it's on us to respond or react or not. Our point of departure in our work is to believe it's worth working to protect this place and to be proactive and constructive. It's not over until the fat lady sings.

Hasta pronto,
laura
