El Pueblo en Defensa de la Bahía de Zihuatanejo held a meeting this evening to review the letter we plan to send to Presidente Felipe Calderón as well as other federal functionaries. The meeting was attended by a good number of previous members as well as some important and helpful new faces including previous public servants, fishermen, hotel owners, and more businesspersons.

It was generally agreed that while we were thankful for the meeting with the mayor last week, he did not exactly instill confidence with his pronouncements.

We also decided to include in the letter our collective opposition to the artificial reef project proposed at Playa La Madera by the same people who a short while ago were promoting the construction of a wave generating construction at the same beach, and this simply appears to be the same project disguised under a new pretext. It is worth mentioning that many attendees tonight are hotel owners at La Madera.

The letter will be ready tomorrow and we will hold a campaign to obtain as many signatures as possible during this week since we want to send it off as soon as possible. It will be available at Casa Marina as well as other strategic locat1ons. I will also get it copied here online so you can add your electronic signatures.

We also formed several committees entrusted with various tasks to help us attain our goal and enlist the support of as many social groups as possible.

We all applauded one of the fishermen present when he told us that the co-ops had been approached by certain functionaries offering them about $5,000 MN apiece to support the new pier project, but the fishermen co-ops turned them down and told them where they could stuff their money!

Jorge Meier is going to give a Powerpoint presentation of our collective opposition to the new pier in Zihuatanejo Bay at the Catalina Hotel this Thursday evening at 8 pm for anyone interested.

Our numbers are growing, our plans are becoming firmer and better developed, and our confidence is peaking. Your letters and support are having a positive impact and many locals are interested in reading your responses. Thank you all for helping us in our time of need!
