Phil writes, "Growth and development are inevitable in this part of Mexico. They must be done with a social and environmental conscience. If not ,like Puerto Vallarta, the Zihuatanejo - Ixtapa area will find itself with declining tourism and decaying and inadequate infrastructure. Can you spell Acapulco ?"

The thing is, Acapulco probably looks pretty good to the folks on the hillside. They may be homeless who built shelter, but calling them squatters dehumanizes them and makes it easy to dislike them. Just picture someone squatting. They are families, same as you, with much, much less money and many times fewer resources than the poorest tourist who posts on this board or has a decent job in Zihua. I'd just like you to think for a moment before writing "squatters" next time.

I think Anita C's post was an excellent observation of the causes and how difficult it will be to solve the problem.
