Fonatur & SCT will provide more info on the cruise ship pier project

*The invitation is open to the public and they can ask whatever they want about the theme on the 27th *The functionaries of both dependencies will provide details on why the pier should be built in a certain place *There are 4 places for ecologists who want to go aboard a cruise ship and verify that they don't pollute when at anchor in the bay.

JUAN FRANCISCO GARCIA.
After pointing out that on the upcoming 27th of this month public functionaries from the Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT) and the National Fund for Tourism (Fonatur) will be here again to explain in detail the cruise ship pier project, the director of Municipal Tourism, Guillermo Catalán Martínez, announced that there are 4 spaces available for ecologists to decide which among them will go aboard a cruise ship in order to see its installations and corroborate that they don't pollute at anchor in the bay.

Catalán Martinez affirmed that the meeting with the SCT and Fonatur functionaries that will take place in the city council chambers at 7:00 pm on the 27th of this month "is a meeting open to all the public, but overall to the group of ecologists and fishermen who have shown their opposition to the construction of a cruise ship pier, so that they get to know the project they have for the construction of this marine infrastructure in a complete and detailed manner".

The director of Municipal Tourism indicated that the objective of the mayor, Silvano Blanco Deaquino, was that the SCT and Fonatur functionaries come here much sooner to this port to explain in detail the cruise ship pier project, but that the work schedule of the federal functionaries only allows them on the 27th of this month.

He also stated that on the following day after the scheduled meeting with the SCT and Fonatur functionaries a cruise ship will be in our bay "for which reason we already have 4 spaces authorized so that the ecologists and fishermen decide which of them will board the ship so that they can visit their installations and corroborate that the ships don't pollute the bay during the time they remain at anchor".

The director of Municipal Tourism, Guillermo Catalán Martínez, pointed out that it can't be possible that Huatulco, a much more recently built tourist resort, already has a cruise ship pier in its bay, while our beach binomial that was begun much sooner and with greater land structure doesn't have a cruise ship pier to facilitate the arrival of ships and better conditions for the disembarkation of tourists, in the most part retired persons and thus elderly.

He specified that apart from conditions of security, good attention and better land-based services, the cruise ship companies demand appropriate port infrastructure in order for their ships to come to a tourist resort area "in the case of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, a cruise ship pier is needed, because this way the cruise ships will put their passengers directly on dry land, which will have repercussions in that having the proper conditions means many more will come ashore."

"Puerto Vallarta, which already has 2 more cruise ship piers authorized and Cozumel, which is an icon of cruise ship tourism nationally and internationally, are clear examples of tourist growth that represent having port infrastructure that we lack, and now that there is a cruise ship pier project there are people who oppose it still without having either complete or detailed information", the director of Municipal Tourism emphasized.

Winding up, Catalán Martínez invited the representatives of all the social sectors, but especially the groups who oppose the construction of the cruise ship pier, to attend the complete and detailed presentation that will take place on the 27th of this month in the city council chambers at 7 pm "where they can ask whatever they like and in this way have the sufficient information for the norms of their criteria", he added.
