That beautiful shade tree at the bottom of the footpath (an acacia I believe) was removed by Casa Que Canta when they also tried to blow up the natural pool there called El Pozo del Eslabón in an attempt to run off the locals from hanging out there and "bothering" their guests. Though they were made to repair the damage to the natural pool, they never replaced the shade tree but instead planted various types of cacti and agaves. The CQC hotel remains unpopular with some locals to this day due to those actions.
