Puerto Mío, our most despised development

Puerto Mío has done considerable damage to our bay and our environment. For starters they illegally obliterated one beach called Playa El Almacén in order to build their boat ramp that is so expensive nobody here can afford to use it. Then they built a jetty of rocks (also illegally) that blocked the natural currents and exacerbated considerably our bay's pollution problem, first causing the silting in of the area between the municipal pier and Puerto Mío that has now extended over the years all the way to the middle of the bay. Then they tried to build a new pier to receive cruise ships, fighting hard with locals who oppose such a project in our bay, at the same time trying to win the concession for receiving cruise ship passengers to their marina instead of the municipal pier, which would have severely lessened the already scarce economic benefits to our community from cruise ship passengers. Then they "privatized" Playa Contramar and have pretty well ruined it by building illegal constructions there and trying to convert the smooth pebble beach into a sandy beach. Then there's their new project called MonteCristo which is another careless development that has destroyed a delicate ecosystem, allowed erosion and tons of construction debris to damage the fragile marine ecosystem of the coastline, and also built an illegal wall blocking the view from the "Carretera Escénica La Majahua". Apparently the ex-director of Fonatur, John McCarthy, who is also one of the investors/directors in Puerto Mío has considerable corrupting influence in the federal government and its bureacracy that has allowed them to get away with so much mischief for so long.

I'm sure they aren't done pissing off the locals. It's truly a shame that development in the name of tourism is too often allowed to happen in such a damaging, selfish and greedy manner.
