What's happened at Playa Linda is a mess. No consideration was ever made for the estuary or the crocodiles when the road system went in and development began. The stupidest thing of all was to allow that area to become developed with an "artisans market" (where few people if any are actually artisans) with a bunch of cheap "restaurants" (we'll call them). Then, it was decided by "responsible authorities" to relocate the pier for Isla Ixtapa's water taxis from its previous locat1on beside the Club Med at Playa Quieta (the ideal locat1on) to where they built the new one (which was immediately silted in and rendered barely usable) beside the mercado at Playa Linda. The worst possible locat1on!
Making an "attraction" of the fenced-in crocs was an added bonus. But now they are overpopulated in a confined area, and when they try to escape humans interfere and block them or return them. THAT'S the kind of crap that will probably lead to an attack. But recently there has been talk of relocating them. Unfortunately, no one in the "official" discussion appears to know what they're talking about except Tamakún, whom no one seems to be taking seriously enough.
The area WAS a pristine and beautiful mangrove estuary with some of the oldest mangroves I've ever seen (many of which have died due to decreases in the water level), and plenty of room for the crocs to inhabit without bothering anyone, but then came PROGRE$$.
