Seafood dishes prepared and served in Zihuatanejo's restaurants do not include "abalone".
The menus often have either a bad translation or a more attractive way to lure customers.
There's not a typical native species of abalone in the much warmer waters of Zihuatanejo.
Abalones have one rounded or oval shell with a large dome towards one end. The shell has a row of respiratory pores. The local molluscs are called "callos", they're different species and sizes, but they're just delicious scallops... :-)
