This message board has been very helpful during our stay, so thanks everyone who responded to our questions.

One thing Gretchen clued us in on was a tour around Zihuatanejo with a very nice tour guide named Carlos Garcia. His cellphone number is 755-114-2937. His English is very good, and he was very patient with us as he corrected our Spanish. It was fun to learn while we enjoyed his great sense of humor.

He showed us how local people live, from Ixtapa to the hills around Zihua where squatters have set up camps. We stopped and learned how roof tiles are made, and Matt got to make one. He took us to several beaches, showed us great restaurants, made recommendations of all kinds. He even drove us around near his neighborhood.

He even climbed the tower with us at El Refugio de Potosi after the very inexpensive display and guided tour at this refuge for rescued native animals. It was interesting and we were so glad to feel like we had seen more than just the beach and restaurants. The tower gave an amazing 360 degree view that allowed us to see a lot of the area. You shouldn't miss it!

If you want a good experience, give Carlos a call.
