And while I haven't driven OUT of MX in nearly 8 years (into the U.S.), my reference was more directed towards the 'internal' ramifications regarding your in-MX vehicle IF your FM3 "expires"....... (as was suggested above).
ISR, I inadventaltly did just THAT with my FM3 two years ago. I haven't heard a word of it since, after 2 renewals.... In fact, I actually flew OUT of MX with said expired FM3 (having to pay the $45USD for an "exit visa" at the airport migres), and actually renewed the FM3 upon my return..... Again (regarding my "computer-inter-connectivity" suggestion), said legal conflict didn't even arise, and my renewal DID NOT revert back to "Day 1" to "start over".......
And that 'process' was certainly NO shammin on my behalf.... Though (tal vez), a little 'influential' Shaman was indeed involved! (;-)

NO DOUBT.... as the MX Mafia is quite adept at running a rather 'healthy' international Import/Export Business! And thank whoever for keeping a firm 'thumb' on the borders in this regard!
