We stayed in the main square (zocalo) in Guanajuato. I think the hotel was called the San Diego. Don't stay in this hotel or anywhere near the zocalo. It was the noisiest 2 nights of our trip. There is lots of noise and disco music all night long. Other than that, a wonderful place to visit.
