A LITTLE HISTORY
Nestled into the low hillside fronting the enchanting Zihuatanejo Bay, Bungalows Pacíficos offers simple yet spacious bungalow suites with kitchens, all with wide terraces from which to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of a true tropical paradise.
It is said that when Hernán Cortés first sent one of his captains to reconnoiter the Pacific Coast of Mexico, he arrived at the top of a hill and looked down at a perfect little bay. There was a beautiful lagoon adorned with white egrets and roseate spoonbills, a stream that ran into the sea, and a group of women doing their washing on the rocks.
When he asked the name of the place, his guide told him in the Nahuatl language of the Aztecs it was Zihuatlán, which means "the place of women". When the captain reported back to Cortés he added the ending "ejo", a diminutive suffix denoting lack of importance, and thus Zihuatanejo was discovered.
It isn't recorded from which hill the captain actually made his discovery, but if it was from Cerro de La Madera then you can still enjoy the same unique view of the entire Zihuatanejo Bay from the balconies of Bungalows Pacíficos. This unique building features an open central stairway climbing the hillside and six comfortable bungalows built on terraces, each with a deck overlooking the bay. The panorama expanding as you go up the hill.
Although you are located in a quiet corner of Zihuatanejo, you're only a few minutes' walk from the local market, offering fine regional fruits and vegetables of the season. You'll also find fresh fish, baked goods and many other surprises. This is not your typical tourist area but a lively and growing Mexican community.
The owners live on the premises and are always happy to see you as well as to advise you on the best place to snorkel or SCUBA dive, to help you arrange deep-sea fishing or whale-watching trips, to suggest secluded beaches you can explore, or to recommend nearby restaurants with specialties you will enjoy. We suspect that if Bungalows Pacíficos had been here when Cortés sent his captain to the Pacific he might never have returned and that might have changed the whole course of Mexican history!
The bungalows themselves are identical inside, each containing an airy bedroom with a king-size bed, air conditioner, ample storage space, a bathroom with shower, and a well-equipped kitchen. Two single beds and a fan are available in the hallway of each bungalow leading to the deck where extra visitors can be accommodated for a small extra charge. Four bungalows have an extra large terrace. Purified drinking water is provided. Daily maid service keeps the bungalows clean and the beds made so all you have to do is enjoy yourself.
There is also a small separate bungalow with a twin-size bed, a single bed, bathroom, kitchen. air conditioner, and a small terrace.
