Haven't I been saying for years that the government only cares about counting warm bodies to achieve its cifras alegres regarding our local tourism? Well, yes I have. And true to form yesterday the state and local governments were bragging about Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa having the highest percentages of any Mexican tourist destination for the Christmas and New Year holidays. Never mind that most of the visitors spent very little if money purchasing local goods beyond basic necessities: mostly just restocking their coolers. If it weren't for the foreigners who vacation here, most merchants would have had few if any sales over the holiday season. Inexpensive restaurants are one of the few sectors that profit from the tour bus groups. Zihuatanejo cannot survive on these non-spending tourists, and it's a shame to see the government acting like it's done something extraordinary by having so many of these tour bus groups visit us. In Ixtapa the preponderance of All-Included hotels has all but killed the local shops and restaurants in the shopping centers. But at least that fact has finally come to be the general consensus locally after I've been saying the same thing for at least 15 years.

How'd it get to be Friday again so soon? :wtf:

A fisherman prepares his panga to head out to work. No fighting with traffic or rush hour here.

According to our gober precioso the work on rebuilding the pier is 85% completed.

A typical morning at our Playa Principal. Lots of fishermen coming and going while pelicans wait for some loose change.
