As of today, since April 18, 2020 Zihuatanejo has registered a cumulative total of 2,190 confirmed cases of Covid-19 (7 more than yesterday), 180 that have resulted in fatalities, 24 that are currently active, and approximately 1,845 that have recovered.

The calm continues this week with a slow but steady trickle of tourists, mostly families who come by car from El Bajío region.

The city removed all the tall palm trees that were in front of the museum in order to fill in the area with concrete and plant some short coconut palms nowhere near as pretty. However, they claim they are holding off placing the ugly little square concrete paving stones so as not to induce large conglomerations of people along our waterfront. I don't believe that excuse. They had claimed a couple of months ago that the work would be finished before Semana Santa. There was no reason at all to kill the tall palm trees. Poor planning and a total lack of consultation with locals. The architects involved should be ashamed of themselves. Of course, since they probably aren't even from here what do they care about a bunch of old trees, right? They didn't grow up with them like most of my family and our friends here did. I just want the damn construction to end and to vote for any politician who will promise to rip it all up.

Some beginner surfers getting a lesson and doing pretty darn well at Playa La Madera.
