Whales of Guerrero whale watching tour
Has anyone booked whale watching through them and can share your experience?
I like the idea of supporting a science-focused conservation organization and their whale watching boat training program, and we don't need a tricked out luxury yacht. I also love the option of including a naturalist on the tour.
Curious about the comfort level of their Pangas, mostly, as my older parents will be part of our group of 7. Thanks!

Whales of Guerrero doesn't offer tours, only training to tour operators. My friend Ramón Olea and his son are certified whale tour guides, but 7 might be too crowded for a panga. Several of Zihuatanejo Ixtapa Charters' captains are also certified. They have several options for a group your size.

Appreciate the info. They do actually arrange tours with captains they have trained and optionally include a naturalist guide from their organization. I was able to submit an inquiry on their website and have been emailing with them about options.
I also inquired with Zihuatanejo Ixtapa Charters, but by the looks of their boats, they may be out of our price range. I'll contact Ramon too.
In the meantime, if anyone has any experiences to share, I'm interested to hear about them.

Yes, in other words they contact the tour operators instead of you. One more middleman. And I believe there are more certified tour providers than those that Whales of Guerrero have listed on their page.
Ramon's boat can hold 7 people, but it won't offer privacy for the ladies when they need to use the head.

I have been fishing with Ramon for almost 20 years. Normally there are 5 of us and that is with my wife laying flat on one bench sleeping and my friends son on the other sleeping, there are also 2 fighting chairs. You can fit 7 but as Rob mentioned it is not a luxury yacht. My suggestion is to leave at 7:00 in the morning and fish / whale watch till 10:00 and have Ramon take you to Isla Ixtapa, bring swimsuits. The restaurant that he takes people to is excellent and then you can do more whale watching and or fishing on the way back to the pier. I have never gone on a strictly whale watching tour but have still seen plenty of whales. Why limit yourself to one thing? Ramon is a very good guy to hang with and speaks pretty good English.

You are correct about WWG handling bookings for the captains they have trained. Any of the fishermen will take you on a whale watch. As far as training, it's really not much more than common sense. Don't get too close to them. I have taken 30'-35' boats on fishing charters, and I think it was about $500 USD for a 1/2 day charter. That was probably 6-7 years ago, so I'm sure the price is up. Don't worry, these are not tricked out super yachts, just larger , more comfortable boats.
