Zihuatanejo lost a favorite son, Fidel Gutiérrez Gordillo, Zihuatanejo's 7th presidente municipal from 1981 to 1983, who passed away on Monday evening of natural causes. His son Carlos has the hotel Casa del Mar and restaurant Arena at La Ropa. QEPD

Many folks enjoyed watching a mother whale with her calf in Zihuatanejo's bay this Tuesday morning. Our very own Talley Ho had a Close Encounter she'll never forget while SUPing in the bay this morning, but I'll let her tell the story.

A turtle nested on the downtown beach just before sunrise. A friend covered its tracks so poachers wouldn't find the nest.

Got a bit nipper again last night. Way down around 21°C. Brrr! There was a nice breeze most of the day. It's expected to get to 20°C tonight. Gonna have to find a blanket somewhere. Maybe have to turn the fan off. But still no snow in the forecast.

Troncones is one of the most beautiful parts of our coastline, made so much more attractive by the low-key vacation lodgings that dominate that part of the coast (though one architect whom I refuse to recommend for numerous reasons is currently infuriating locals by promoting condominium mega-projects whose financing should be investigated as well as the MIAs). It remains an inspiration of how sustainable development should be approached, and the local property owners, both foreigners and nationals, continue to work to make it more sustainable and ecologically friendly. One of its loveliest lodgings is Casa Delfin Sonriente. A 6-bedroom private beachfront villa with a pool on Playa Troncones can be rented in its entirety or as individual suites and bungalows. There is an outdoor BBQ area and areas for various outdoor activities. Any closer to paradise would be hard to get.
