Yes, confirmation, from anyone in the know, would be appreciated.

In Taxco, yes. Haven't heard anything about Zihuatanejo.

I mentioned it to our cabbie tonight and he'd heard nothing about it.

I ask my taxi driver today and he said the combis aren't working and some of the taxis as well. Who knows.
No transportation tomorrow
My friend is borrowing his father’s truck to take us fishing today. He cannot use his taxi to drive us.
Tuesday morning, things are running
The la Ropa combis started running at their regular time of 6;15 and all appears normal now at 7:30am
Saw the normal number of taxis go by too.

We were thinking of spending today at Playa Larga, but maybe delaying a day would be safer/smarter. Wouldn't want to be stranded out there.

It's a wonderful place to be stranded! But actually you could walk back to La Ropa in about 2 hours or less at a leisurely pace along the coast, crossing over at Playa La Pedregosa where the arroyo meets the beach.

Just confirmed with my personal taxi driver that they are on a protest strike today, Tuesday.
No transportation tomorrow
Yes. Taxis are scarce and hard to come by downtown by the basketball court.

All combis were told to park their units by 10.00 am Tuesday. Told by whom?
Twelve days ago an identical situation occurred in Acapulco. As of this morning, much public transportation is still parked in that hurricane-devasted town. Some routes are still running, in part because the Guardia Nacional is offering lifts for free. Local media reported 12 days back, repeated again today, that the Acapulco transport closure was a result of threats from organized crime. Few Mexicans would question that.
A combi driver told me this first thing morning he didn´t know what would happen Wednesday, but that he would be off the road all day Tuesday, starting at 10.
Ref. Taxco: Public transport and also schools are closed in Taxco, for reasons of public insecurity.
This info is all based on public Mexican media reports. ¡Nada de Facebook!

Unfortunately, not everyone is mobile. Walking home from Playa Larga....or even from La Madera or La Ropa....is simply impossible for many folks.
Around 2 pm, friends told us there were no combis or taxis down at the south end of La Ropa, near Rossy's. These friends walked up to the sitio near Los Delfines and said there were lots of cabs there....but when we went up there a half hour later, there was only 1 taxi, luckily for us. We saw no La Ropa combis. I asked the taxi driver where all the taxis were, and he replied "Party."
Public transportation is an absolute, irreplaceable necessity for many folks. If these clowns are going to suspend or eliminate service, the least they could do is provide advance public notice. So, tomorrow? Who the hell knows?

Yes, there were minimal combis and taxis going to Ixtapa or Coacoyul today, Tuesday, January 23. Being completely unaware, I picked today to shop at La Bodega. The few combis running (ex. Limon, Esperanza, Infonavit, La Union) were packed to the rafters! (Saw a young dude fully outside the combi holding on to the grab bar!) Taxis were scarce; a lady told me that they were charging double rate for local rides. No way to verify but the usually full taxi line outside Bodega was empty and rides back to Centro was a crapshoot.
I felt bad for the locals who depend on combis and taxis to go to work, shopping, medical appointments and more. They looked helpless. Me? I needed the exercise so I just (involuntarily) walked. Hope that the "strike" is gone tomorrow.

Who the hell knows? Good question. I´d guess it´s largely up to City Hall. They have the power, or at least the influence, to "settle" the problem. Same as the issue a year ago over propane deliveries -- the problem was "settled" in a day or two. And thus the local economy -- usually the target of this kind of nonsense -- was saved.
How many tourists today missed a flight because they couldn´t get to the airport?
Airport Transport Wednesday
We travel to Zihua frequently. Recommended to friends who arrive on the 24th. They are not international travelers and were hesitant to go to Mexico. We convinced them.
See the taxis may not be running on Wednesday. Anyone know what airport options might be for plane passengers. I don’t want to let them know unless there might be options. Hoping someone there to help arrivals.
They are staying at Catalina.
Airport Transport Wednesday
The transportation issue surrounding Zihua-Ixtapa at the moment should not affect transport services into Zihua from the airport. That service is administratively separate from local transport services, and has more political "heft" than other local transport services. I doubt they are or will be affected by the current dispute in Zihua itself.
Airport Transport Wednesday
Thank you so much. I’ll sleep better tonight. We want them to love Zihua as much as we do. Also we want them to get to the Catalina and be amazed when they see the bay.
Airport Transport Wednesday
Thanks again. All went smoothly for our “first time” to Zihua friend’s arrival that went perfectly. They text photo of happiness on the beach.
