Ixtapa
We have been coming to Ixtapa for many years. Have always loved it here but it has changed drastically. The hotels especially one next door to us, has become louder and later almost everyday and into night. Some even until 1:00 to 2:00 a.m. And weddings are especially later and louder. They have absolutely no consideration for anyone.
And a new thing that has now happened is a group of 20 or so people congregated at the Oxxo when you just enter Ixtapa, on Sunday night at 12:30 a.m. They turned on their speakers and played music until 2:00 a.m..at the highest decibels. I mean the buildings shook. This also happened last Saturday and Sunday further down the boulevard.
Are there no rules or laws governing the area.? Or do they just not care.?Why wouldn’t the police do something to disperse the crowd at 12:30 a.m.? I have spoken to people at our complex and they are as disgusted as I am.
Any suggestions on how to address this or am I wasting my time?

We're all frustrated here by the increasing noise pollution. Been so for decades. Unfortunately, like his predecessors, the current mayor couldn't care less even though during his election we made it clear to him that it was a main concern of my family and hundreds of others who live in the downtown section of Zihuatanejo where the proliferation of noisy bars has been allowed by successive municipal administrations.
I no longer have any good answers for these types of complaints. But help is on the horizon. One of our state legislators is introducing a bill specifically to address noise pollution. The problem is enforcement. Municipal police are lacking in much training and appear to simply serve as bodyguards for the mayor. They also appear to lack the autonomy to simply enforce the laws. Noise pollution is translated here as an "ecological matter", so our laws that were apparently written to protect criminals and corrupt public servants dictate that the Director of Ecology must attend to complaints of noise pollution. Good luck being able to contact their office, especially at night. The police only shrug and say they have no jurisdiction. We have tried a roundabout way of dealing with the problem by contacting Reglamentos who have tried to be helpful, but the mayor keeps them on a short leash, so they can only do as much of their jobs as the mayor allows them to. Same as the municipal police.
Once this matter is written into state law, then the state police should be able to enforce the law, since our mayor apparently won't.

Remember when noise complaints dealt mainly with barking dogs and crowing roosters?
How quaint.....

And braying burros. I miss hearing burros.
Ixtapa
The burros have been replaced by after-market, straight-pipe mufflers, on more-and-more motorbikes on our streets.
Gosh, maybe we should redefine "progress," ¿no?

Our experience with excessive noise in and around Zihua Centro is you'd be wasting your time. Paradise can be awfully frustrating at times.

My own brother departed Mexico a week ago swearing he would never return -- not to Mexico neccesarily -- but to an all-inclusive "5-star" hotel in Ixtapa, where he had stayed. The unceasingly loud music blasted around the pool deck dictated his decision.
Is this an example of managerial professionalism in the hotel industry in these parts? Seems so.
From personal experience, we know that putting a 20-something in charge of the public music system, anywhere, will result in max-volume music played that pleasures the disc.jockey first, before others.
Carlos Fuentes, a recognized literary and cultural critic of his native land, pondered why Mexico, at times, seemed locked in "perpetual adolescence."

Ear Plugs and air-conditioning takes care of 99% of the noise.

Please be sure to bring this to the attention of your lodging's management. They are supposed to advocate on behalf of their guests instead of just taking your money and shrugging when you can't sleep from all the noise.

Could also be "upflight" from well to do who did not get hit bad in Acapulco.
Ixtapa
What does up flight from Acapulco mean?
Our management has worked for a long time to try to work things out with our neighbors to vary little avail.
Nothing they can do about the street people though.

He just means folks who came to Ixtapa because of the damage in Acapulco from Otis. Tourists who normally would go to Acapulco and partake of its nightlife.
Glad to hear your management is at least complaining. Hopefully they, like I, won't let up.
