Zihuatanejo's comerciantes are enjoying a busy weekend thanks to the presence of so many visitors, including a high percentage of foreigners. Many restaurants are full, and shopkeepers have been busy with sales. This is what Zihuatanejo needs more than anything: simply a decent tourist season without any calamities or drama. Unfortunately, the mayor is planning on digging up all of downtown's pedestrian streets so he can replace our beloved adoquín paving stones with his own painted cement, removing the remaining quaintness and vestiges of Zihuatanejo's past so he can have more money for the upcoming election to get his wife elected as mayor. After all, they'll still need to buy a lot of votes. The construction will hurt many downtown businesses who are still trying to recover from the effects of the pandemia.

There wasn't a cloud in the sky over Zihuatanejo all day. Nothing but bright sunshine and clear blue skies except far to the east over the sierra of Petatlán where a few cumulus clouds sprouted up. We enjoyed a light breeze part of the day which helped to keep temps tolerable. Personally, I never tire of our perfect tropical weather.

Rob, I know you have posted before - but how/what is the best way to express our opinion to the mayor and powers that be about this possible roadwork? It is the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard in a long time. There is nothing wrong with the streets, they are charming, the businesses truly will shrivel up and die! What is he thinking? I don’t get it.

The mayor and the city government have Facebook pages where they respond and where you can also send and receive private messages. Of course, you can also go to the ayuntamiento and register a complaint there by leaving a note or letter. Since this is a public works matter and not a political matter, there is no legal risk to any foreigner. Even our visitors pay taxes and deserve to have their voices heard.
