Another day, another shootout. This one was actually in the wee hours of Sunday morning in the vicinity of the bar "Toxic" across the street from the Cancha Municipal. No word in any news media. Zihuatanejo remains a lawless town, just so no one has any illusions about where they are.

I forgot to ask the mayor what he's doing to make Zihuatanejo safer when Lupita and I ran into him and his lovely wife this evening. Liz Tapia is very likely to become our next mayor.

So they had a marlin fishing tournament, but no one caught any marlin that qualified. Oops. Nevertheless, they had a big party in the parking lot by the pier with live music. Everyone looked like they were having a wonderful time, not just at the pier but all up and down the waterfront and Juan N. Álvarez street. Downtown was crowded, shops and restaurants were doing good business, and smiling faces were everywhere. That's what Zihuatanejo's all about!

Sunday morning the sankas were shivering with 20°C weather and a balmy breeze. But the warm hospitality, good food and delicious coffee at La Porteña restaurant helped take the chill off.
