Animal DesconoZIHdo
Some Sunday mornings are so weird you can't forget them if you try. Like the Sunday morning my mother, brother and I were driving down Little Princess Hill in St. Croix on our way to Davis Bay for a day at the beach, and as we got to the main road we saw across the street in a field that there'd been an accident where a car had hit a tree so hard it had split in half, and a head was found quite a distance away that turned out to belong to the body they found under the car, apparently that of someone who had simply been sleeping under the tree. Gulp! How horrible! As we continued our journey about 2 miles down the road at a turnoff that climbed a hill, an Austin Healey was sitting perfectly balanced in the top of a rather tall coconut palm tree, apparently after missing a curve coming down the hill. How uncannily ODD! Well, THIS morning there was a man in a furry blue animal suit, maybe it had a dog-like face but it was pulled back like a hoodie, passed out drunk on the gravel under the amate tree near the beach at Plaza del Artista. He woke up as I walked by, apparently not knowing where he was, and it looked like he kept reaching for a back pocket he didn't have, as if looking for his wallet. He got up, looked around the tree, looked in the garbage can and sat down next to it pondering his predicament, then got up and unsteadily loped away in the furry blue animal suit with everyone around trying to suppress their laughter. Too weird!
It was nipper again this morning. I could almost see my breath! But once the sun came out, things warmed up nicely and it quickly turned into another picture-postcard-perfect day.
Large groups of people obviously fresh off of buses from cold places, many hauling large suitcases, were sitting all up and down the waterfront this morning waiting for the water taxi service to Las Gatas to start.
One, maybe two whales were spotted in the bay late this morning, and it or they hung around for about an hour. The one I saw had so many parasites on its skin that it looked almost pink. Poor thing probably hasn't the strength to jump and splash off the parasites.
The parade for the SailFest Sunday evening was cute, but it seemed to have long gaps between marchers, and as usual, so many family members accompany each student that they practically run you off the sidewalk while blocking the view of the kids marching, so if you weren't tall or up high you might not've seen much.
Tucked away in a lovely gardened property less than a block from the beach at Playa La Ropa is another one of our hidden jewels with a French flair named Casa Iguana. Six luxurious bungalow suites with A/C, cable TV, Internet connection, kitchenettes, and garden terraces with living and dining areas. An absolutely perfect place for relaxing and losing track of time.
