Whales have been delighting folks in the bay and along our coastline. Now's an excellent time to charter a boat for a whale watching experience!
Activities, Charters & Tours

Some large waves rolled in last night from another mar de fondo event. Made for great sleeping sounds, but at the beach please be careful for tricky currents with these waves.

Even though it recently rained a little in our region, we are expecting severe drought conditions this year. Fires will likely be starting soon as the vegetation dries, and they'll likely be made worse in Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa because it's an election year when we typically see many land invasions under the "protection" of political parties and candidates. So go easy on the water, and if you don't have a cistern, make sure you have some large garbage cans or similar where you can store water.

They share a large palapa that functions as a living area with a bar and kitchen in front of a pool overlooking the beach.

Media headlines out of Mexico City last week indicated that 11 of the 16 delegaciónes in Latin America´s largest city will be out of water by June/ July this year. This was not mere speculation, as the water volume of the three reservoirs supplying the city are easily measured. Ariel photos showed boats stranded many metres from the receding waterline.

Insecurity of water supply is often mentioned as an impediment to Mexico taking full advantage of the "nearshoring" trend happening in US corporations at this time.

So, we should all be doing everything possible to conserve "el liquido vital."

and time to do some planning and spend serious money on desalination plants along both coasts.

time to do some planning and spend serious money on desalination plants along both coasts.

Someone once said that there's no shortage of water, only a shortage of cheap water. This is a worldwide problem, with changing rainfall patterns and the slurping up of aquifers for Big Ag. So there needs to be a crash worldwide effort at building a lot more, and a lot more efficient, desalination plants. Meaningful conservation measures will help a lot but it can't be enough. Massive desalination projects will have to happen. I don't see any other way.

A reduction in the human population would be another way.

I don t have the facts to support it but I suspect that instead of 8 billion of 21 st century water users we would need to get down to 2 billion or so just to allow the planet s aquifers to recover. We use per capita far more water than our ancestors did,

I guess none of you live in California.
We are flooded.
My little town, where the lake reservoir got down to about 30% recently is above 80% in a few short months.
And yes- I am very 'woke'

Thank you, Rob!! No one talks about population control anymore, as if the whole world were Catholic when it comes to birth control. I have never understood that. Not only would reducing our population help the water shortage, it would just about fix every aspect of climate control, air pollution, food shortages, etc. Paul Erlichman's book from the 1970's, The Population Bomb, turned out to be so true

It will take more than population control. We all use so much more water per capita now than our ancestors did 100 years ago.

True, per capita. But the biggest offenders are Big Ag corporations, like the huge Saudi soybean fields out in the wilds of Arizona, that are draining the aquifers and paying pennies for the privilege, thus making life difficult for Arizona residents.
