Just a ticket?

A few years ago I came back to my rented car to find a guy walking away with my license plate, along with his collection of plates from other vehicles.

(This was on Calle Vicente Guerrero, between Calle Altamirano and Avenida Jose Morelos, which is a long block. I had seen a no parking sign way at the far end of the block, but none anywhere near the corner where I parked. I,parked there because of the other parked vehicles and I assumed that the sign at the far end was for a limited area.)

I asked if I could just pay the fine on the spot. The person indicated that he had already entered the data into a handheld device, so I had to pay at the police station.

Anyway, I had to go to the police station, on Avenida Bicentario signing in to get a visitor pass to wear. I went to one office where they gave me a bill with the amount, then another office to pay the bill and get a receipt. I took the receipt back to the first office. My plate wasn’t there yet, so I waited for it to arrive, then signed out and returned the visitor pass.

I don’t remember how much the ticket was, but it was not insignificant.

632 pesos, enter the big gate next to the jail, they will point out the room with the judge, who arrives about 9am. In and out in 2 or 3 minutes. Just do it and get it over with. Shit happens.

Talking to a friend this morning, lost his front plate for a parking infraction, went in last week, 1200 pesos. He showed pictures, tried to argue, no joy. Said you should just pay it and save yourself the grief!
