I'm going with La Porteña, though Mr. Lalo also does an excellent job since he was the son-in-law of don Rubén who taught him well.

I enjoy Rubens and they have the best curly fries aka papa curly on the planet.

Other than at our house, stuffed with bleu cheese, Hold on, don't gag, Sam's Club!

Yes, well they also allegedly jailed their founder, don Rubén Akell, at a very advanced age on phony charges causing him to almost die in jail until he agreed to their extortion demands, so I'll neither recommend nor patronize their services. Never mind the giant parota tree the estranged family cut down to build their current restaurant in La Madera, another huge strike against them since don Rubén was one of our first local ecologists who would never have done nor permitted such a thing in his name.

La Hija de Capitan for their chipolte burger.

There's at least two in this crowd!
If you are at all a curious burger fan, you owe it to yourself to check out the vegan hamburguesa at Mitos / Entre Zankas. Mitos / Entre Zankas is a two-in-one restaurant. Mitos is the fine dining establishment and Entre Zankas is the vegan restaurant. The two menus are available whenever they are open.
On my first visit to Entre Zankas, the mesera couldn't stop recommending the hamburguesa. I didn't have the heart to tell her that even when I ate meat, I was never a big hamburger fan so I relented and tried it. It's fabulous. It is very much unlike most other alternative burgers I have come across. It is more of a seed/nut/vegetable combination. The buns are baked in house and the fries are to die for!
Paco is the chef at Mitos and Ceci is the chef at Entre Zankas. They are husband and wife. When you think of it, it is a very smart strategy. If you have a group and there is that one in every crowd who doesn't want meat, take 'em to Mitos / Entre Zankas. Likewise, if you have group of veggies and one carnivore who can't stand the thought of munching on rabbit food, take 'em to Mitos / Entre Zankas. They are located on the street (Cuauhtemoc) that runs up from the amphitheater / Cancha / basketball court, about 4 1/2 blocks from the beach.
Tell 'em Crazy Paquito sent you!

So glad to be reminded of Mitos/Entre Zankas.
I went up there one Thursday because I heard they had a great (veg?) pozole.
I was too early...or too late...don't remember.
But I will definitely go again with your recommendation

I prefer Lalos, omg, I had the thickest piece of bacon on my last burger there. Nirvana!

The only place I've found a burger thick enough to actually be delivered medium or medium rare is La Tasca - IF that is the style you like. Comes with bacon, fancy cheese, etc. There are other tasty burgers around as others have mentioned, but they are simpler affairs.

Hamburger stand at the basketball court. Comes with ham, cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo, avocaso etc. 80 pesos. Wash it down with a glass of horchata. The best in my opinion and I have had Ruebens, LaLo and VW bus near Kioto

Sorry, but homemade is the best. Mix ground beef, pork, Make two patties for each person and stuff them with bleu cheese, two patties into one. Use a VERY hot cast iron pan, sear them on the outside, very rare in the inside, then top with cheddar (when we can find it) and serve with chili on the top. OMG!!!! IF you can make it through one, you won't need breakfast. Just a light lunch.
One of the few things we have to plan to have for dinner!!! Can't eat it more than twice a year anyway!

The toughest part is getting a reservation at that place!

Thank you all, went to La Portena and it was great… but the winner for me was the bacon cheeseburger at Mama Mia at Worldmark.

When’s dinner? We can bring the ice cold Victoria

Vegan Ruby's also has a great vegan burger. Unfortunately you have to know what day they serve it as it isn't available every day. There are also "Beyond" burgers at the Soriana.
