please don t suggest cats or traps as both would require human intervention periodically. I am looking for a 5 or 6 month off season solution.
I am dealing with mice that get into my clothes dresser in two places in Zihua and chew up cotton based clothing like T shirts and jeans. They do no seem to be attracted to synthetics. I have put out mouse bait of different types but never seem to get any results.
Any proven suggestions with the name of the tienda in Zihua that sell the poison that works is my preference.

Gee, things were fine on that hill until the land invasions and development ran off the local wildlife. Culebras, jaguarundi, halcones, boas, and alacranes used to keep the mice under control. If you poison them, then you'll also kill other animals and the poison will enter the food chain. Nothing in this world except constant human presence and intervention can keep mice away. If you start poisoning the environment, then you become a bigger problem than the mice.

I have a cabin in the woods in north east US and get tons of mice evidence in my utility room until I bought peppermint oil. I douse paper towels with the oil and leave on the floor of the utility room. Gone. Need to stay on top of it! Hope this helps.

If they aren’t interested in synthetics could you bag the cotton clothing in bags made of polyester?

Now that's called "thinking outside the ....bag"
Several of my friends that leave their cars in Zihuatanejo storage use moth balls in a small baggie with pin holes inside the vehicle to repel mice. They have had great success.

If you can't find moth balls, I know lots of people, including me, who put dryer sheets (Bounce) in their boats for offseason storage. Has worked well for me.
Naftalinas (moth balls) purchased next to Sam’s Club, store Caporal.
