They normally appear mid summer for only a week or so. We think they are the best for onion soup. LIke many of the US things like russett potatoes, thay are here for a very short period of time.

These onions at Soriana are cheap, 32.3 p per kilo, but obviously have been cold stored for monthe. OMG Great onion soup tonight. Four more in the fridge for next week. That may have to hold us for a year, but that makes up appreciate them more!

We had the burgers a week ago, and can only do them about twice a year, so no on the burgers. We bought enough onions for two batches of soup, so one more next week. Last night's was spectacular!!!

I have been dehydrating onions. That might work for you.
I store them in air tight jars afterwards. The dried onions are really handy for cooking, no chopping or tears, just throw a hand full into the pot!
Mind you, I put the dehydrator in the garage, but all the neighbours comment on the strong onion smell around the block when I'm doing it!
