Fires continue raging out of control in Guerrero. First in Acapulco, now in Técpan. It won't be long until more fires cause our skies to be full of smoke. If you have breathing issues, now's the time to get prepared for having to remain indoors or to carry a portable oxygen tank with you. So far we've been lucky, but this year the fires are predicted to be bad because of the lack of rains last year.

Wow! Visitors are definitely showing up! It got crowded fast! The wedding party in front of our house lasted until the wee hours and kept a lot of neighbors up late, but most surprising was the amount of garbage the wedding goers left ON THE BEACH. The downtown beach was about as filthy as I've ever seen it. Of course, the city government didn't plan for it or send extra workers to attend to it, but I'll bet they sure pampered their Blue Flag beaches. Hypocrites!

The faithful marched down our street this morning with their beautifully crafted palm fronds after mass at the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. Always a very moving and beautiful spectacle to enjoy, even for this unrepentant but very respectful atheist.

Took an early walk this morning and was disappointed at the amount of garbage on the beach. Even worse was the amount left on the seating areas at La Cancha. I'll never understand it

A small part of the trash problem is the typical lack of trash cans. You can observe this everywhere in Zihua. For example, at the Saturday market near the museum, there are several food vendors who sell items in paper which are often consumed on site. There is never a thought as to where to dispose of the paper etc.

The first time we visited Zihua, many years ago, we were at the Cancha and observed a guy drop a bag of trash on the ground, a mere inches from a trash can. I was blown away.

After God made the heavens and the earth, the angels were amazed at the beauty and splendor of her creation. They marveled and exclaimed, "Oh, Lord, how did you do it? Could there be anything that rivaled this beautiful world? What could ever spoil it?"

The Lord said, "Just a moment. I am ready to make humans."

Can someone out there calculate the batting average?? It sounds pretty grim.

We enjoyed a very nice morning in Zihua yesterday, having breakfast by the fishermen at Cafe Marina on Playa Principal and coffee at El Cafecito next door. Both were excellent and it was a steady stream of tourists to the pier. Las Gatas must have been very busy. We also walked Cinco de Mayo and the downtown which seemed very quiet and we ran in to the lovely Lupita at Cafe Caracol right next to here new shop. What a lovely lovely women she is!
All I all we had a great morning in Zihua it was cool, breezy and just what we needed as we needed to pick up some vanilla , coffee etc before heading back to the great white north next week. We feel so fortunate to have found this place over 20 years ago.
