AMLO
A facinating interview on the CBS 60 Minutes program Sunday with MX President Lopez last evening. What caught my interest was the question of drug smuggling into the US from MX. His short response was American family values being so much less than Mexicanos. Thus our appetite for hard core dope, more so than Mexcicans, was directed towards family discipline. Lack of two parents. Welfare system. etc. Spot on sir!

He said the same when he was in Zihua some 3 weeks ago.

I don't believe Presidente López Obrador criticized the USA's welfare system, just the USA's loss of family values and principles.
While Mexico certainly has its share of deadbeat dads and broken homes, families remain a much more important bedrock of society here. But young people need discipline and orientation as well as the guidance and love of their family. Young people here generally aren't pushed out of their homes, and the elderly are generally not expected to live in retirement homes or communities. A very different mindset than the USA and the Anglo culture.

My very dear friend from Mexico City left for the States in 1983. He family was very upset with him. He has since reconciled and visits often. However, his mother didn't even want to talk to him for several years.
The common belief among UnitedStaters is that all Mexicans want to emigrate to the States. This is simply not true. Many left because of economic hardships, not because they wanted to leave. Luckily, the Mexican economy has grown substantially and is much stronger than it once was.

Was there an alternate 60 Minutes interview with AMLO? The excerpt below from the transcript is the 60 Minutes interview with AMLO that I watched last night.
President López Obrador (in Spanish/English translation): "Fentanyl is produced in the United States, in Canada, and in Mexico. And the chemical precursors come from Asia. You know why we don't have the drug consumption that you have in the United States? Because we have customs, traditions, and we don't have the problem of the disintegration of the family."

While the US government are the whores of the fossil fuel industry and big pharma we haven't murdered over 300 journalists in the past ten years or been entangled to the highest levels with the drug cartels such as contemporary Mexico.

The deaths of reporters of independent media is unconscionable.
When the interests that support the fossil fuel industries and big pharma own the corporate capitalist media, and some would argue effectively control much of government, it would be counterproductive for them to kill journalists.

Sorry, what was your point? "We" haven't murdered journalists, some criminals have. And the drug cartels are just as much a product of Prohibition 2.0 as the mafia was the product of Prohibition 1.0. The difference being the USA wised up and legalized alcohol after 10 years and only took another 50 to get the mafia under control, yet the USA continues playing stupid when it comes to other popular recreational substances, thanks in large part to Big Pharma and Big Alcohol lobbyists. I don't even want to think about how long it will take to bring the cartels under control. Almost as if the USA wants the cartels to continue plaguing Mexico.
Discipline or Love?

Here is what is being reported on the topic in Canada…
Mexican president says lack of hugs caused U.S. fentanyl crisis
Mexico's president said Friday that U.S. families were to blame for the fentanyl overdose crisis because they don't hug their kids enough.
Lopez Obrador said family values have broken down in the United States, because parents don't let their children live at home long enough.
On Friday, the Mexican president told a morning news briefing that the problem was caused by "a lack of hugs, of embraces."
“There is a lot of disintegration of families, there is a lot of individualism, there is a lack of love, of brotherhood, of hugs and embraces," Lopez Obrador said of the U.S. crisis. "That is why they (U.S. officials) should be dedicating funds to address the causes."
There is a big difference between, “family discipline” and “lack of love”.
